Emerald Lake &
Athabasca Falls.

We continued our adventure up the Icefields Parkway, some of the most stunning scenery I’ve ever seen from a car window, the problem wasn’t finding something to see but figuring out how many times we could stop on route before it got dark! We started the day driving to Emerald Lake, a slightly more touristy spot similar to Lake Louise but nonetheless grand. From there we drove further towards Jasper, stopping what must’ve been every few miles.

After our winding journey along the Parkway we arrived in the beautiful little town of Jasper, we spent the night drinking (more) delicious beer at the local brewery. Setting off early we had a heavy checklist to get through from our newly established basecamp! Eyes peeled for bears and mountains, in car entertainment for hours.

First on the list was a very hazy Moose Lake, the glorious Mount Robson and one of my favourite spots of the whole trip, Overlander Falls.

Horseshoe Lake to
Banff & Canmore.

From our last morning in Jasper we hopped back on the IP towards Calgary, an early stroll around Horseshoe Lake all to ourselves and walking on the surface of the Athabasca Glacier. Following a bite to eat with a glacial view, the long drive to Banff. Banff was by far the busiest location of the trip, a far cry from the deserted Horseshoe Lake that morning.

We stayed that night in Canmore, another lovely town with a Jasper vibe to it, surrounded by more stunning mountain ranges.

We only had a couple of days left to explore this neck of the woods before Nicola, Alex and I had to catch an internal flight back to Vancouver so we crammed in a couple of mountain drives and cold dips. The beautiful Castle Rock, The Three Sisters, the baking hot Grotto Canyon and finally our first bear sightings!
